At Candlewik Studios we like to think of ourselves as storytellers. We love telling stories visually, whether through photography, graphic design, or videography. And we would love to tell your story.

Whether it’s the story of your wedding day, a business venture, or a significant chapter in your life, such as a graduation or a birth, we approach each project with passion and creativity. No project is too big or too small. Each is just as special and just as important because it’s a part of who you are. It’s your story. And it would be our honor to help tell it.

Tim grew up in Cleveland, Ohio the third oldest of 14 children. Tim’s love for telling stories was a cornerstone of his childhood. During highschool, this love translated into making short films with his siblings and writing scripts for feature films. Since then, this passion for story has flourished into photography, graphic design, filmmaking, and script writing. “It is my honor and joy to help you reach your audience with your story.”

 

 

Jacob A. Wright

Jacob grew up in Pennsylvania with a passion for telling stories. From the time he was young, photography and moviemaking became a means to see and show the world through new eyes. Even in the simple things there is a beauty to be uncovered and it is that journey of discovery that fuels his passion and sparks creativity to tell the untold. “I would love to meet you and help to bring your story to others.”

The Rental Wins 3 Telly Awards

Candlewik Studios’ debut comedy, “The Rental” was awarded 3 Telly Awards, including the coveted People’s Choice Award, at the 32nd Annual Awards Ceremony. The Telly Awards honor the very best local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions, and work created for the Web.

“The Rental” Deemed Best Comedy At Regent Showcase

Writer Mal Vincent of the Virginian-Pilot wrote an article about the Regent Film Showcase giving Candlewik Studio’s The Rental a very positive review:

The best comedy entry pits chick flicks against action movies. Filmed at the Naro Expanded Video on Colley Avenue in Norfolk, it features two woeful suitors who have been sent by their girlfriends to rent a romantic movie called “The Real Man.” They, however, desperately want to get the latest action-slasher, “Blades, Babes, Bombs and Bullets VI.” Comedy thrives on this kind of universal situation.

The twin sarcastic clerks in the story were originally set to be played by the film’s producer, Tim Kay, and his twin brother, Ben. But problems arose when Ben had to be out of town on the day of shooting. (With a budget like this, you can’t afford to delay.)

With the help of editing tricks, producer Kay played both twins. (With a significantly larger budget, “The Social Network” pulled off the same trick.)

The Rental Wins Best Editing Award

A huge THANK YOU to all our fantastic cast and crew!!! The Rental took home the “Best Editing” award at the 25th Anniversary of the Regent Student Film Showcase. A special thanks to Tim’s dear wife, Ashley, for supporting this crazy wonderful dream. Thanks to Matt Williams (our DP) for giving us fantastic footage to work with. Another special thanks to Anna Wright for letting Jake and Tim camp out night after night piecing this film together. Those all-night editing sessions payed off!

Student Film Showcase

Regent University will proudly host their 25th anniversary presentation of the Student Film Showcase in the Communication and Performing Arts Center’s Main Theatre on May 3, 2011. Candlewik Studio’s short film The Rental has been selected as one of the 10 films to be shown. Multiple awards will be given at the showcase, hopefully Candlewik Studios’ beloved comedy will be the recipient of one or two!
